Ebooks could be big for Christmas

It looks as though retailers are expecting big sales for ebooks this holiday season.

Also, some signs of life in the retail world that the economy is slowly turning around.

  1. Big sales on ebooks, the percentage of buyers is on the rise, but how many of the recipiants of the ereaders will then go buy a e-book? i didnt see any perdicitons of that number. the industry is hoping that with the purchase of the ereader the buyer will also buy a book or two with it. i still maintain that the hard back publications will not be undersold this year because of the gadets. again people still enjoy the simplicity of a book to curl up with.

  2. as far as signs of life, for one it is the holiday seson which accounts for the food and clothing venues. but the increase could be from the min. wage jumping up, and some work opening up in towns such as Williston ND where wages are doubled and so are supplies. the general supply and demand and avaliblity of work. from hear tell its only a 10 year venture. but for the time such booms are fueling the economy in rual areas and the workers then bring their money to the home towns because of hours worked and lack of housing, so say 7 guys living in a one bedroom apt. cuts the cost significantly for living. it also seems that things are turning slowly, population may be trying to live within their means.

  4. Well if the economy is on the rise that would be great. One fact that I've learned about the economy lately is that there are three categories in sales that never change with the economy. They are alcohol, tabacco, and the beauty industry. I thought that was interesting. Most people's moods are lifted by the holidays. So, it makes sense that sales have gone up. As far as e readers, I think that it's an interesting gift for the book reader. It's probably not a good gift for the occasional reader or the college student that claimbs to be done with reading for the rest of their life. But an interesting gift at that.

  5. I agree with Kelly!!! I think there is such a pressure on all of us to put gifts under the tree for our kids we usually get ourselves into financial trouble. It makes since to me that sales are starting to go up it is the season to shop, but I don’t think it shows a true sign of the economy recovering. I’m sure you will find the eBook on the top of a lot of Christmas Lists.
