Olbermann saga rages behind the scenes

Speaking of The Daily Beast and its growing stable of highly regarded writers, Howard Kurtz has a follow up to the controversy surrounding Keith Olbermann's suspension and reinstatement at MSNBC.

Kurtz is well known in journalism circles as he was formerly the media critic at the Washington Post.

  1. Once again politcal favors and publicity for olbermann, he throws a fit and threatens and gets his way, because msnbc has no balls to stick to their guns. they want him gone so do so, olbermann may get apperences but when will he have his own show again? out with the liberalism. It's pretty clear why Olbermann is such an admirer of Obama. They are both egotistical narcistic supporters of socialism and the controll of the world, didnt hitler want similar for germany? hmmm.
so the company comprimises once, now how many times will they comprimise their policies and proceedures?

  3. Goodwin's Law states that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

Goodwin's Law has become a sometimes humorous Internet adage referring to the fact that as online threads grow longer (and often more heated) the likelihood increases that someone will throw down the Hitler card. It's one to be careful with. Hitler was a personification of evil unmatched in recent human history. Comparisons can have the unintended consequence of diminishing the horror of what transpired in Europe under Nazi occupation.

Abby, here are some humorous variations on Godwin’s Law:
    • As soon as such a comparison occurs, someone will start a Nazi-discussion spinoff thread on censorship.

    • If the USENET discussion touches on homosexuality or Heinlein, Nazis or
Hitler are mentioned within three days.

    • Intentional invocation of Godwin's Law is ineffectual.

    • Subject: Trial of the Century to end soon:
We can be assured that the OJ Simpson trial will be ending soon, as defense attorney Johnny Cochrane has invoked Godwin's Law by likening Detective Mark Furhman to Adolph Hitler -- so no further rational discourse is possible.

    • Bentsen's [highly fallacious] Defense:
"Not this time. I know Mike Godwin. Mike Godwin is a friend of mine. You're no Mike Godwin."
[Named for Senator Lloyd Bentsen's "You're no Jack Kennedy" line from the 1988 vice-presidential debates. A.k.a. Cooley's Defense, after the original poster.]

Personally, I'd just like to see Keith acknowledge the hypocrisy of what he did. Self-reflection Keith, it's a beautiful thing.

  6. . "If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." (John F. Kennedy)
